Recently, the Inauguration Ceremony of the International Alliance of Academicians (IAA) and the First International Academicians HAong Kong Forum (“the Forum”), initiated by the Hong Kong scientific community, took place in the city. The China Resources Research Institute of Science and Technology, as a supporting organization, played a vital role in organizing this significant event with the theme, contributing to the advancement of scientific innovation.
The Forum was officiated by distinguished guests, including Mr. John Lee Ka-Chiu, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR Government; and Dr. Wang Weiming, Director-General of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR. Representatives from China Resources Enterprise and over 20 professionals from China Resources Research Institute of Science and Technology also attended.
During his keynote speech, Chief Executive Mr. John Lee emphasized the Hong Kong SAR government's commitment to fostering a dynamic environment, supporting the application of innovative technologies across diverse sectors and industries, institutes and every aspect of urban life. He announced a Frontier Technology Research Support Scheme, which worth 3 billion Hong Kong dollars, will be launched soon, helping to fund ground-breaking foundation research driven by world-class researchers and academies.
The IAA aims to join efforts of world leading scientists, scholars, and technology talents. Through establishing a stable and effective mechanism for collaborations and communications, IAA seeks to promote scientific innovation, advance academic progress, and collectively address pressing technological challenges faced by humanity. The formation of IAA signifies a further enhancement of Hong Kong's position in global technology innovation arena, injecting new momentum into the city’s aspiration to become an International Innovation and Technology (I&T) Centre.
At the event, over 50 international academicians from more than 20 countries and regions engaged in discussions on cutting-edge topics including artificial intelligence, biopharmaceuticals, energy, environment, and smart cities. The first International Academicians Hong Kong Forum featured two parallel sub-forums focused respectively on "AI for Health" and "Future City" , each with panel discussions.
As China Resources Group’s main platform for conducting scientific research activities in Hong Kong, China Resources Research Institute of Science and Technology actively serves as a bridge for the "State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) Innovation and Technology Action Platform". It collaborates with universities and research institutions to vigorously support academic exchanges, weaving a cross-industry collaborative innovation network, and establish itself as a recognized platform for industry-Academia-research collaborations in Hong Kong overtime, thereby contributing expertise and resources to the city’s development as an international innovation and technology centre.
